REGISTRY : MEMORIES 001 - 015 : MEMORIES 015 - 030

001 "Runrunrun!"
Journey into Mystery no. 634 pages 3 - 4
Arrival memory

What are we running from now? After the fall of Dark Asgard and the defeat of the Serpent! Loki is plagued with awful dreams and decides go for a midnight stroll to find their meaning. Instead he's met with lots of fire and Daimon Hellstrom. What do you do when faced with fire and flaming tridents and men whose intention seem to be guided by skewering you like a pig? Lots and lots of running! For the life of him he can't figure out what he did to be pursued.
  • Look he really has no idea why he's being chased.
  • Did some horrible things that he doesn't remember!! ...that's, that's just great! Also he could apparently be behind something else.
  • Can't do anything, nope.
  • He's totally a trickster. That "look behind you" thing is gold.
  • He also has a talking bird. Look Tavros, you're not that weird.

Aaaaand what have we found out from this? I mean meaning. The memory takes place during Fear Itself when Thor is imprisoned to keep him from ... doing really Thor things that Odin deems to be unruly and impulsive, and since Thor speaks out against him because he wants to destroy Midgard to stop his Serpent brother. So he's thrown in Asgard-jail. This gives Loki the opportunity to sneak in through some jail tunnels and see Thor for some very important advice.
  • His name is Loki! Surprise. Still not sure what that means aside from it's his name.
  • ...Except that no one will follow him because of it?
  • Oh, he has no problem working with unscrupulous individuals, but he sort of knew that already.
  • Brother is there. He's very large.
  • He knows he broke in there for his brother. He respects him to seek out his advice.
  • Unnamed brother??
  • There's a determination about this memory that comes along with the words. "What would you do if something bad were about to happen?" "I'd stop it." "But if something bad was happening, and it had to happen and if it didn't happen, something even worse would happen, what would you do?" "I would make sure it happened."
  • "Even if it cost you everything?" He's willing to sacrifice a lot for this brother.
  • He knows that the words here seal whatever it is that he's set out to do.

Important voodoo about this memory and the meaning and stuff. There's not terribly much going on here except some confirmation of ideals. A walk outside of Asgard! Loki shows off his Stark Tech that he won fairly most unfairly (gamling with dwarves and cheating) and Thor isn't really that impressed. They have a talk about Odin and change. Odin's mad all the time news at 11.
  • Surprise brother again. We still don't know his name.
  • They're living in some place called Midgard.
  • Uhh, he's a god? Ok, he's a god.
  • Also a half-giant, apparently.
  • Mortals are also ok, but they're better than they know. Brother person seems to think so, too.
  • His brother knows some guy named Stark that makes tech. He talks too much.
  • There's some weird Odin feelings here. "I do not think Father approves," is really skimming on the light side of things. Loki kinda gets it but not enough to have strong feelings about Odin's old-manness.
  • There are people who think he's wicked, but brother likes him.
  • There's an overall feeling of contentment about this whole memory.
  • Also fire giants exist.

004 Car stealing 101
The Mighty Thor no. 619 pages 8 - 10
Palm sized lion statues in a bag. Two uses.

What's this one about? Uh. Mostly stealing cars.
  • His brother's name is Thor.
  • And that's Iron Man. Also some guy? No one cares about him.
  • He was "brought back"? Everyone seems to have a problem with that except Thor.
  • The gods deal with heavy shit.
  • Also Asgard is in a desert.
  • And something is coming. IT MIGHT BE WINTER. No it's really not.

Journey into Mystery no. 631 pages 15 - 17
Form of an apple. Non-sharable.

What's this one about? FRIENDSHIP. Kind of. Maybe. On Loki's end. After the fall of the Serpent, Hela leaves Leah with Loki as a safeguard so he repays his debt. She's ordered to keep an eye on him while Hela finally returns to Hel after her exile. Siiince Leah obviously can't stay in Asgardia, they find a cave near Broxton that she can stay in. Loki tries to butter it up by telling her that he'll bring sheets and books and Leah insists it's on order. They talk about Loki's plan, the parts that did and didn't work. She mentions that it all went for him like clockwork, he disagrees. The only reason that it goes well for him is because of planning and the unexpected element of chance. If he's been anything, it's been lucky.
  • Surprise Leah! He has a B.F.F.
  • What's a B.F.F.?
  • He owes a debt to Hel.
  • He possibly has one friend because of this debt, in a world that largely doesn't like him or think that he should exist.
  • Plans don't always work out, but use chance as a factor to make it look like you know what you're doing.
  • He's starting to wonder what kind of person he was, really...

What's this memory about? Wow Odin, I don't think there's anyone who's a bigger dick than you are? Anyway there's the story of the World Tree and how it came into existence, as told by Odin. There are many gathering as refugees to Asgard from around the Nine Realms as each has been conquered by the World Eaters.
  • There are all kinds from nine worlds.
  • Bor is Odin's father.
  • Bor planted the seed that would one day be the World Ash.
  • "Light that bright always casts a Shadow." Asgard is the shining city that attracts shadow.
  • ASGARD!!! Things happened to Asgard, and it's empty. There are invaders who want the empty space.... but why not let them have it?
  • Asgard is where Asgardians are. That's what "home" is.
  • I think I mentioned somewhere that Odin's a huge dick. Odin is a huge dick. For Loki it's a little less obvious. Mostly because he has no other memories of Odin aside from this man screaming at him that he's a traitor?
  • ...And he did something to deserve all this yelling, somehow? He's not exactly sure what he did. But people keep alluding that he's someone awful.

007 An odd day.
The Mighty Thor no. 18 pages 9 - 10
Taken himself.

Some stuff is going on here. And this is the stuff. Lounging around everything's happened, Loki ponders himself. The sky starts raining dead birds and things are really strange, so he goes to assure the All-Mother that he has absolutely nothing to do with it. (Well, he does, but he doesn't know that yet.) Thor's off punching fire somewhere, and Freyja tells Loki that she's dreamed of her father, and asks him if he remembers his. His thoughts first go to Odin, and Odin's uh ... Odin-ness, before Freyja clarifies that she meant the father of his blood. Of course, he doesn't remember anything.
  • Mentioning the bit about the irony here. Yes, he has everything to do with this, he just doesn't know it yet. Jumping to the conclusion that everyone would blame him anyway, he goes to see Freyja and assure her otherwise.
  • So Odin isn't his real dad. That's both odd and relieving at once. His opinion of Odin is that of both respect and "wow that guy makes some shitty decisions." "Shagged the help" and "yells at Thor and me a lot" is pretty much the gist of it.
  • His other father's name is Laufey of the Frost. Makes sense, you know, Frost Giant. Very intimidating.
  • That he doesn't remember Laufey could mean a lot of things.
  • Despite all the occasional outbursts, he really does see Freyja as something of a mother figure, and there's definitely the feeling that she sees him as her son. There's a very familial feeling to the exchange, even though it's sort of about Loki's other dad.
  • Oop, it sounds like something is coming again with Freyja's all-seeing dreams.

008 "Thori, no. Please not you."
Journey into Mystery no. 644 p 5 - 12
Candy apples the size of a thumbnail. Clusters of three.

Well this is depressing. Loki travels into Hel with Thori, meaning to consult with Hela, chased very closely by the corpse of the Hel Wolf sent by Surtur after Loki steals Twilight's shadow. In order to create a false lead, Thori suggests that he takes Loki's glove and throws his father off. Loki agrees, thanking his dog and then huddling into a cave for the peril to pace so he can keep moving. After having a good cry, he emerges to find the Hel Wolf waiting for him. Woe, he's betrayed by his own dog! But there's no time to cry over it too much, both Garm and the Dísir appear, a battle with Hel Wolf ensues, and Gödul drags him into a portal, Loki trying desperately to tell her that he needs to see Hela.
  • Someone named Surtur. He has pursuers who are pursuing. Of course he's being chased again.
  • He's stolen Twilight's shadow. Whatever that is.
  • "My mistakes are hunting me down. My pack of lies are after me." Whoops, put in a dire situation by his own hand.
  • Thori doesn't like hugs.
  • "He was my dog, Ikol." (There's the bird there, too. Ikol, interesting.)
  • Had Thori's betrayal come because of the way he was born? This is even more depressing. Thori is also uh, most definitely some kind of Hel Wolf creature thing...
  • He's familiar with the spirit women who call themselves the Once-Cursed Sisterhood. Familiar enough to call them by name.
  • And he really, really needs to get into Hel...

Journey into Mystery no. 641 pages 19 - 20
Memories come in the form of miniature macarons in boxes. Nine uses.

Way to make mom mad. After his mission to the Otherworld, Loki returns to Asgardia to report to the All-Mother of how the situation there's been wrapped up. Unknown to everyone, as her existence was a secret, Leah is gone. So Loki's lost his only friend! He's also sort of done the opposite of what they asked him to do. He uses "stop the war in the Otherworld" to put the opposite side of war in power—the side that favors change. What an annoying play of events. The All-Mother certainly seems to think so.
  • Stress stress stress stress about other things lead to outbursts. Also an outburst that's been a pretty long-time coming. He's definitely ready to even when he steps up to report. Displacement of some emotions and putting them with others is a great thing.
  • No one really likes the way he does things—or the way that he plays with the wording of the commission.
  • Look, he really doesn't like people dying. Finding a solution where people don't die is a good thing, right?
  • Noodle arms.

010 Odin's wrath. / Sentimentality with Volstagg.
Journey into Mystery 624 pages 5 - 7
Memories come as small, capped horns of mead, only two mouthfuls. Two uses.
Taken with Kanda

Odin's a dick again. Odin imprisons Thor because Thor is the only means of destroying the Serpent in the prophecy! "Odin is supersmart" said no one ever. In this dumbness he decides that he's going to wipe Midgard of life so the Serpent (his brother, btw) has no means of fuel. Since he doesn't want Thor to die, he throws him in jail because Thor really wants to save Midgard and is willing to fight the Serpent for this and die, and Odin ignores his wishes completely. In the midst of all of this, Loki drugs the guards and lets Thor out of jail, after the brief conversation in this memory. In order to get everything to coincide with Thor's wishes, Loki manipulates Volstagg into helping him release Thor. They're confronted by Odin, Odin throws some nasty words at Loki, and then Volstagg steps up and takes part of the blame off the poor child. After Odin leaves, Loki's put on goat dung duty, Volstagg heads off to prepare for war, telling Loki to stay put. Uh, Loki doesn't.
  • So it's pretty apparent that Odin just downright doesn't like him. It seems that there may be some legitimacy behind his reasoning, but thanks dad. Despite being aware of it, he puts less of himself into Odin's opinion then his Other-Self did.
  • Thor's wishes > Odin's wishes
  • Hey! Volstagg steps up, and for the first time Loki's realized he's made a tentative friend. Even though it seems that he's Loki, Volstagg gives him a pass because he's a kid. There's some warmth that he didn't expect from anyone, and especially not Volstagg.
  • There's a Serpent and it's preparing to destroy them all, huzzah.
  • Oh, and despite that warmth he feels for Volstagg, he's still going to lie to him and say he's laying low anyway. He's not.
  • Also note the clever way that he doesn't even bother to say anything about the Hel-hound. Let's hope Odin forgets about that.

011 "My brother's name is Thor!"
The Mighty Thor no. 9 pages 6 - 21

Silver Surfer hangouts are awesome. After Thor's death in Fear Itself, Loki goes to the doctor because he's hit by lightning by the Norns. Oh btw the doctor turns out to be Donald Blake. Thanks there, Donald Blake, for being gracious enough to do periodic doctor's visits for Asgardians. No one can remember who the eff Thor is, but something's really been eating at Loki. Tanarus is strutting around Asgard in Thor's place. Loki, who couldn't remember Thor's name until he was hit by lightning, is convinced that everyone else is crazy. Including Donald Blake. Hence the check up! Donald keeps correcting Loki from "Thor" to "Tanarus," and after a fairly melodramatic tantrum in Broxton's walk-in clinic, Loki marches out with Donald cane. Which he stole.

Loki literally walks around in the desert all day until he comes across the Silver Surfer, who's, uh, laying in the sand and letting vultures pull at his glowing entrails. It's part of being in the life-cycle. Loki rudely fusses at him, and then they're friends. Silver Surfer introduces himself as "someone who's rode the cosmic winds." Pretty cool. They talk about Donald Blake's stolen cane, and the Surfer comes to the conclusion that despite the caneiness of the cane, that it has two places that it exists in the universe, and one is elsewhere. The cane gets forced down and surprise! It becomes Mljinor. But who the hell is Thor?
  • While Loki's off harassing people, Asgard turns to Asgardia, and the monarchy turns republic of the Nine Realms under the hand of the All-Mother. People who doubt her get the axe, it's pretty freaking cool.
  • "Why are you letting birds eat your guts?" is great.
  • The memory here is interesting because though Loki remembers Thor, the memory is a bit hard to place because he definitely can't remember Thor dying. The whole thing is somewhat disorienting.
  • The Silver Surfer is pretty cool. Also there's some dude who totally eats worlds. There are Nine Realms, but the whole cosmic thing brings a much bigger spin on things.
  • A lot of desert memories here. He's probably poked a bunch of different kinds of cacti.

012 "What now?" / Thor's death.
Journey into Mystery no. 629 pages 21 - 24
A little bunch of crab apples! Three uses.
Taken with Radu

Fate throttles hope. The aftermath of his adventures in the Serpent's Dark Asgard. Leah, Tyr, the Dísir and Loki all step through the portal from Dark Asgard to the edges of the battle ground where Thor met the Serpent. Loki's plan works, and Thor dies along with the Serpent. The group ponders what to do, and Loki reviews his situation after Tyr asks him "what now?" Loki mourns for Thor, and Ikol flies off in his own thoughts.
  • This whole memory, while running on a pretty good plan + some adrenaline that he's coming down from, he's pretty terrified. He's really set with the task of killing Thor on Thor's wishes. Loki reasons with himself that they fought to let Thor triumph, Leah puts it in plain terms and tells him that they fought to let Thor die. It circles back to what the World Tree told him.
  • Loki's always pretty aware of his situation, there are just times that it comes through more than others.
  • The reality that he's stuck with a bunch of people who would practically love to see him either dead or exiled hits him like a truck. There's no more Thor to protect him. It's the first time the thought "Thor brought me back for this" crosses his mind.
  • The whole memory is like a reality check. People hate him, he did something awful, and this is confirmation that he is capable of something terrible even with the best of intentions. Everyone fights their own battles on the battlefield, and Loki fights them with trickery.
  • Worst win ever.
  • No really Tyr, shut up.

To Hel! A war is brewing, and while Thor goes off and Asgard tries to solve the problems that Loki's unintentionally caused with his bad decisions, Loki goes off to Hel to try to plead to Hela for help. While she lays on her bone-throne with her bone-cup in her bone-themed clothing, she tells him "no." That Hel will remain neutral and the battles that Asgardia fights are its own.
  • He definitely has to be super convincing in this memory because Hela, while duty-bound, does everything for the good of Hel. The living are little concern to her until they join the dead.
  • There's something a bit new about this memory in the way that he's presenting himself to Hela. While he would most likely find some way to make everything seem more dire, or that he'd find some way to trick someone into doing something, he's doing his best to be convincing through honesty. No one buys it.
  • Crap, he's fucked things up again, but there's a determination to fix it. There is a bit of hopelessness eating at the back of his brain.
  • There's also the need to make things right through doing something that's really unLoki-like in ... being completely honest ...
  • This could have been what Leah was talking about.
  • He's getting the idea that what he's capable of can be incredibly destructive.

Go team Thor. This memory is just seriously Thor kicking ass and confirmation that he's very not dead and Loki didn't kill him forever.

The book, however, is an interesting compilation of Marvel-based Norse-mythology and kind of ties into the whole idea that the stories told of the gods that have been passed down are just that. Not even the gods remember if the stories are true, even if they remember them as true. Sif and Volstagg then speak of Loki's manipulation, and the possibility that even though he's a boy that he's playing them all. From what happens from Siege, to Journey to the end, it wouldn't be too far off.
  • Thor's not completely dead! This is good! He didn't kill him forever! I mean the stuff that got them from point A to point B is just that.
  • There's an elatedness about Thor being awesome, and really an amazing amount of enjoyability from Loki.
  • No fear about being around something absolutely huge and dangerous because no matter what happens Thor will most definitely save him!!
  • Well, that's good.

Oh no this was supposed to be exciting. They're in Great Britain! It's the Otherworld! People and creatures are fighting for the Otherworld! The whole thing is a bit more complicated than that. Because of Loki's interfere-y nature, and because Asgardia wishes to remain neutral in the face of the Otherworld's war, Loki is sent secretly to, um, patch things up with his special brand of patching. Excited to see a real life battle, Loki heads off with Leah to spectate. Everyone gets maimed and dies. Despite all the glory described to him, it's pretty terrible and gruesome and horrible. Leah tells him that the living are foolish for believing battle to be great, and that the dead know better.
  • YESS FINALLY A LEAH MEMORY AFTER LEAH ARRIVED oh everyone's dying.
  • Leah has ties to the dead.
  • Boo battles really suck. People hitting eachother with weapons seems like a really thoughtless way of solving problems. It's really apparent that no matter how glorious battle seems Loki doesn't like people dying.
  • SO, MORE DETERMINATION FOR PEOPLE NOT TO DIE.
  • Time to find the least-people-dying option.
